1.0 Situations with wing players
Don't MESS with wingers or breakthroug over the crease. Body contact over the crease are dangerous, You will get RED carded.
No contact is allowed since the defender in position # 1 is arriving after the winger setting up the jump. Progressive punishment means that the referee may sanction with a warning (maximum 3 per team) or suspension 2 min. It could be a red card if it is an reckless action on the opponent.
2. Protecting the athlete (red card)
The duties of the referees in NOT ONLY to administer the game according to the rules BUT ALSO to protect the athletes careless situations.
A defender (white) is extending her foot at the 6 meters while No 3 is taking off. No 3 is stepping off the foot of defender.
This is RED card and possible blue card if the referee judge that it was done maliciously.
3. Offensive fault (charging)
It is obvious that the defender was the first to take position.
4. Referee mistake (charging)
In this video clip, we see that defender is in position before the last step of No 25.
5. Illegal pick (blocking) from pivot
The pivot must be stationary when making a pick (or block) and must NOT use extended arm to block the moving defender.
The PIVOT is allowed to take wide stance but he is not allowed to use his ARMS or LEGS to set MOVING PICK.
The proper technic from the pivot (mostly used) is using his body, "butt' or torso to block the path of a defender. The pivot must take position before the defender.
6. Long holding or pulling down
We are talking about pulling the shirt.
Dangerous play. Athlete must be protected.
It shall be sanctioned when the defender is showing intend to play the body (no intention to play the ball).
7. Simulation of offensive fault
When a player is "faking" in order to create a turnover. If you try to influence the referees, you may be suspended or progressive punishment.
8. Too many steps
Special thanks to the Alberta Team Handball Federation for the video clip.
Be alert ! It happens very quickly. Concentrate on the 1st step.
If the 1st step is right then the possibilities are:
a) Right - right - Left
b) Right- Left - Right
Another tip: It is suspicious that a player is bouncing the ball at 10 meters and reaching over the crease on 3 steps (unless the player is on fast-break). Pay attention as well to defense: The defender #2, pushing in the back and defender #1 stepping inside the crease. A quick whistle, would calm both teams of playing on the edge of the rules. Notice there is a tolerance when the defender is touching the 6 meters line.

9. Long holding the jersey or arm

On the first time, the referees will accept the goal (if there was a goal) but will give a verbal warning (not yellow card)
10. Incorrect execution of free throw
The referee just need a quick whistle and ask the player to re-execute the free throw from the 9 meters (where the offensive fault happened).
11. Passive play (referee judgment)
This video clip was in 2016. The rule has be upgraded from 6 passes after Forewarning to 4 passes after the Forewarning
Notice: A referee could call passive (without counting 4 passes) when a team after 3rd phase (preparation phase when extended fast-break did not work) is slowing down the game by delaying their substitutions.
Without time-out
Both referees shall show the direction
then the proper signal
With time-out
